Ha! I don't think being featured at the big X-Prize announcement is exactly confidential.
It does reinforce for me the idea the NGEN Partners is "laying down the law". Many (if not most) start-ups churn through CEOs since the original enthusiasm of the idea-man is generally not compatible with building a sound company. Whether they have decided to go stealth or pulled out is beyond me. But it is clear that Ian's constant promotion of a vehicle that wasn't even designed yet has been sqaushed.
I hope they haven't pulled out. But even if they did, I wouldn't be concerned about it. The "best" is often the enemy of the "good", and they are clearly refocused on getting a good vehicle to market sooner than shooting for the best vehicle that may never get done. They may well have something that will win the X-Prize by the time the cross-country race is run, but it appears to me they don't want to embarrass themselves by promoting it and then falling short and having to pull out.

I thought it would be a good idea to repost this here since the title of this thread is "Has VV given up on the X-Prize"......
Many have been concerned about Persu being still active in the Progressive X-Prize contest, so I asked Phil about this. As you know, we have all been wondering about this since Persu released the new specs for the vehicle.
The deadline for filing an official application for the X-Prize contest is February 29, 2009. Well, Phil assured me that they are preparing the application, and fully intend on joining and submitting it before the deadline.
I asked Phil about the specs, and how they do not meet the prerequisite qualifications for this contest, but he reminded me that the mileage minimum is actually MPG-E. That's miles per gallon, plus the electric range off the grid. Somehow when those 2 elements are equated, they will meet the 100mpg-e prerequisite.
Derwin,
That date might be hard to make since there are only 28 days in February this year.

LOL! That's only a minor problem...I think the Persu R&D dept. is working on extending it to 29 days. r:o:f:l:2:2:1
Good catch, by the way. I have had that announcement up for a while now, and your the first one to see the mistake!

It would also be important to have an actual vehicle. Maybe 29 February 2009 is a firm target.

Welcome to the club, Bruce! wel;co;m;e101))
I think 29 February 2009 is the firm target for them entering the x-prize contest, but I think it's gonna be a bit further in the future before they get a vehicle up and running.
According to their website they are scheduling a 2010 California release of the Persu Hybrid. But that can, and most likely will, change. We know this from past history!
At any rate, welcome to the club. If you ever need anything, feel free to contact me or any other admin.
