View Full Version : A Convenient Response to an Inconvenient Truth
Meet Jack Rickard (http://web.me.com/mjrickard/), an interesting man with very interesting things to say. Watch his video that features a conversion of a 1957 Porsche Speedster replica to EV. This isn't a "how-to" video about the step-by-step process of conversion, but it's informative and entertaining, and goes beyond the nuts and bolts to address issues that most of us here are passionate about.
He's going to tackle a 2009 Mini Clubman conversion next... I can't wait! cool:thu:mb1
BTW, this is one of those sites that you may have to open with Internet Explorer, but it's worth it.

That video just doesn't play in Firefox. It says it needs a plugin, then can't find it. Anybody else having that problem? I downloaded the large video. It'll play in either QT or VLC players.

Yeah, I'm getting the same problem. I can see the video screen, and opening image, but nothing plays.

You can play the smaller format videos on the website if you open Internet Explorer. I would rather just download the higher resolution files. This video is well worth watching.

Great info, all you want to know and more... any questions...... And for the most part up to date on DC motor...
Here another fun idea for all us that dig old classic bodies...
For a while I was thinking to convert a Sebring kit to electric. Using the Sebring-MX http://www.sebring-mx.com/ , just when I started looking into it, the parent poduction Co (Classic Roadster) went belly-up, after some 20yrs of production... Terry At GLR (the link) was trying to take over and do a bailout, to keep his production going, but haven't heard what sucess his had.. Maybe if FTR can generate enough intrest for him, he can get the molders and a production team back together... There is also a UK kit builder, out there for the guys across the pond. The world needs more EV's, Why not have a classic ride doing it...

P.S. Does Missouri have Crocks? If they do, YELLOW must be local breed.. I figure one went after his old blood hound...
Dang, I like that Austin Healey replica even better than the Porsche 356. There must be a few unsold ones still laying around...

When I talked to Terry last fall he had a black one still in the box.. But I would think now they're having a hard time getting parts together...
I found these guys (Classic Roadsters) back in 85 when they where just starting. I always wanted to build one. The yellow one is for sell on ebay by a vegas dealer for some $40K with soupedup chev motor.... In the past few years they come and go on ebay...
The UK site is preaty active http://www.sebringcars.co.uk/... Now the euro and the dollar is better ballanced might be able to get one there... there is even a site that deals in original Austin parts, out of the UK...
Making and EV version would be quite a bit simpler that an ICE, and would cost little more. Just a little custom frame work for batt and motor mounts.
