I felt the need to post a few words about Michael Jackson. As I do this, I realize that there are those out there that will want to throw dirt, but I sincerely ask that you refrain from doing so. This post is about the affect MJ has had on MY life, and not about debating issues relating to MJ. This is a very PERSONAL post, and my personal tribute to him.

Let me begin by saying that I am 43 years old, and I first began listening to Michael Jackson when I was about 6 or 7 years old in the early 1970's.

The very first record I had ever purchased was the Motown 45rpm of the Jackson Five with Michael singing the song "ABC". . .

Another song that I played constantly was "I'll be there". I played that so much, that I must have worn out the old 45!!

Then we have the "Thriller" era in the mid 1980's, and how we enjoyed that video on several occasions. I remember watching that, and hearing Vincent Price give the dialog with his creepy voice! It was scary and exciting all at the same time! And then there was "We are the World", which I still remember as if it were yesterday.

Michael Jackson had the MOST impact in my life, though, back in 1996. I was going through an incredibly rough time in my life....actually, the darkest moments that I had ever faced up to that point, and to this very day. It just so happens that Michael Jackson had just come out with a new song called "You Are Not Alone", and this was just the song that I needed to help me get through this time in my life....

You most likely don't know, but I am a huge Elvis fan, and when I heard that Michael married Elvis' daughter, I was pretty amazed, to say the least! Well, in this video Lisa Marie is shown with Michael, and I really loved it. This song touched my heart like no other song that I've ever heard, other than a few Gospel songs. I'm not being "over dramatic" when I state that this song saved my life, with the help of the Lord. That's a huge statement, but is true nonetheless.

As I said, I have been an Elvis fan for my entire life, and there was NEVER an artist that could even "touch" him in my eyes. But I must say that Michael Jackson has indeed had an affect on my life that exceeds even him. Through his music and his videos, he has pulled me through some dark times, and inspired me to get up an keep moving.

But beyond simply being an inspiration to this schmuck (myself!), he has had an affect on people around this entire world. His music crossed color barriers, and has even helped people think about actually CHANGING the world, such as in his song "Man in the Mirror" and "Black or White".

Michael Jackson changed the world with his music. He changed America. He changed individual lives. He changed MY life for the better. For this reason, I honor this man who indeed has GONE TOO SOON.

I think Michael Jackson had a really screwed up childhood that scarred the rest of his life. I also think that a few of the things he was accused of as an adult were not understood by the rest of us, in that we interpreted them through our own eyes and not his. Frankly, I'm glad that I did not have to walk a mile in his shoes. Money and fame are only worth so much. RIP Michael.

Never refrain from letting us know the things you feel strongly about. It makes this sight one of 3 that I go to first thing in the morning. Unlike most sights; this one is about real people with a dream of a fun and cutting edge transportation possibility for our (hopefully) near future. RIP young Michael.
