Over on AutoBlogGreen, there's an article (http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/07/16/bmw-trademarks-activee-name-for-future-electric-car/) about BMW filing a trademark for the word "ActiveE". The article's author goes on to speculate that it could be used for a future vehicle name.
(Unfortunately,) the author goes on to speculate that it could be used for the Clever, and posts pictures to that effect. Before anyone gets excited about the possibility, there's no proof that this is what the name would be for - this is just wishful thinking on the part of the author.

Didn't want to be a "rain on people's parade" person, but didn't want people to get overly excited about something that most likely isn't going to happen.

Sorry! o:h"we"ll1

Thanks to some eagle-eyed BMW fans with a handy penchant for tracking trademark filings by the Bavarian automaker, we now know that the company has registered the name ActiveE. It's completely plausible that the moniker could be applied to the automaker's upcoming electric vehicles, since it matches up quite nicely with BMW's present ActiveHybrid series. Last year, the German automaker reserved the name eDrive, and it seems the two labels could somehow be paired together as part of the company's Project I initiative (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/projecti).

Moving along, BMW has also trademarked what could possibly be the name of the upcoming and oft-spied (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/spy-shots-mini-cooper-crossover-spotted-in-california/) Mini crossover (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Mini+Crossover/): Countryman. If this is indeed the case, the badge would go hand-in-hand with BMW's current naming convention for its Mini line, which includes the extended-length Clubman in addition to the standard Cooper and convertible. We're expecting (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/28/2011-mini-crossover-coming-to-frankfurt-in-production-form/) the new CUV to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (http://www.autoblog.com/category/frankfurt-auto-show/) in production form as a 2011 model.

Beautiful and Horrible at the same time. Mount the Lights somewhere else, like the rear wheels and give it a rearview camera like the aptera has. Then you could pretend the Lights were like, lasers or missiles or something... instead of eyes.

Whatever gets me a decent 3 wheel tilter. I'm not going to be too hung up on the looks at this point.

BMW could totally do this. And do it now. They have motorcycles in the US along with the Mini and their cars. They're either separate dealers or dealers support two or all three of the franchises. Thus the network to do it is already in place. Just do a test of half dozen or dozen dealers in the US with say 500 units. Maybe even a lease similar to what they did with the Mini E (Electric).

Well, as many long-time followers of Persu (formerly Venture Vehicles) will know, they actually had BMW listed on their website last year as a "partner" in the development of the Persu Hybrid.

I don't know, though, if this is still the case. They have sense taken down the "partners" link on their site, so I have no idea if this is still true or not. But it is interesting!

I have followed the C.L.E.V.E.R. project for some time. Maybe BMW is resurrecting that concept........deciding to do so after the body design work on the Persu Hybrid. I also found an interesting video I've not seen before an animation along with video of the active tilt system at its best. Maybe someone could copy it to this site if you feel it of interest. Google...............video.google BMW Clever super car on three wheels......... to find it. If club members have seen it please ignore. Thanks!

The club has been talking about the Clever concept for the past 2 years, and I am sure we have threads somewhere in here that have videos, pics, etc.

But send me a link to this animation your talking about, and I'll embed it to this thread.

Derwin.................sorry but see if you can find the link by googling (video.google BMW clever supercar on three wheels). If that doesn't get you to the video let me know. I'm betting you haven"t seen this one.

Very nice find rickb. Lets hope Persu and BMW are working together. That would be very cool:thu:mb1. Nice vid and it looks like they had a mule. (I think I had goosebumps watching that.)

I am so itching to "fly the road". I think within the next 2 years if nothing is out (Persu Hybrid, Dange, Clever, etc.) I am going to have to get a motorcycle just so I can kinda fly the road. 2thumb:up

BMW and Persu are not working together on the CLEVER concept. My understanding is BMW Design works partnered with Persu to do the Body Design only for the Persu Hybrid. BMW did the CLEVER Concept 3-4 years ago along with the Univerity of Bath but scrapped the project. I was hoping that BMW might resurrect the CLEVER after working on Persu's design seeing what a huge following and market there is for this type of vehicle in the US and worldwide. If any car/motorcycle company could get this type of vehicle to market quickly with high quality and safety standards it would be BMW.

My heart pounded too after watching that video and I'm hoping to be flying the road with you in a couple of years. However, motorcycles scare me to death from a safety standpoint.

BMW took a risk with the C1 which surely had less chance of being a hit (due to it still being a motorcycle).

Come on BMW jump in with both feet - this could be the transformation of transportation (and the car industry) that the world so badly needs!! :)

Interesting reading on the Persu Hybrid Web Archive post by Peter. I didn't know that Dennis Helfman and James Selwa of Persu Mobility were both formerly connected to The BMW Group. My suspect and hope of BMW's involvement in getting the Persu Hybrid to market is even greater with BMW's "ActiveE" name.
