I have read that Carver only licensed the tilt technology to VV for distribution in the US, but does that stop an individual from buying one and exporting it to the UK, privately?

In this case, the machine would need to conform to European standards, notably the MSVA (Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval) test by the Vehicle and Operators Services Agency - see http://tinyurl.com/2lo7a3

Question is, does it?

Penfold -since the vehicle is still in the development stage at this point no one could tell you what would meet European standards and what needs to be added or changed. To my knowledge since Vv isn't going to be exporting it for you and would sell it to you in the US it shouldn't violate their licensing agreement. You would have to be responsible for exporting it and modifying the machine to MSVA specifications and getting it certified under MSVA or Partial Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval

OK.

The modifications required should be minor, with the exception of headlamps which may be non-trivial to adjust permanently for LHD.

I suppose service, repair and parts would be very difficult indeed.

Another option is to wait until the vehicle is 10 years old then it doesn't need an SVA just an MOT and then registration. However, it should be relatively easy to get one through the SVA.

Why would you think it would need motorcycle approval..?

In fact, owing to the wheel track width, it will be - legally at least - a car in the UK, same as the Carver. Appropriate SVA will apply
