Hello to all members! I have not posted in awhile but thought this would be of interest to all. I have recently discovered a non-tilting vehicle from a new company out of Eugene Oregon, called Arcimomo. There first vehicle offered is the Pulse which is an all electric vehicle with various ranges dependin on the battery pack selected. Their website is up under their name. I was able to see it at the recent Seattle Auto Show and I must say it was very impressive as far as quality, design and eye appeal. I look forward to the clubs opinions of this hopeful future ride!
Thanks- hedger65

It's pretty cool. I noticed that the top speed is only 55mph, though, and the range is anywhere between 50 to 100 miles. Where I live, these numbers prevent it from being a viable option. And it's completely void of the all important FUN FACTOR that comes from the tilting design of other designs like the Persu Hybrid or the Dagne.
It's good to see a company actually get one of these vehicles on the market, though.
Here's a video they produced...

Thats what i am talking about, forget tilt on 1st gens and get something out there.

So what exactly does tilt buy you besides a "cool" factor? Doesn't this limit you to motorcycle tires and don't they have a short life span? I'm more interested in something that can cruise comfortably at 65 mph to keep up with local traffic I drive in, have a min range of 100-120 miles (between charge if electric), since my min daily commute is 90+ miles and I'd need to be able to do a side trip without worrying about being stranded. And I want it enclosed for all weather capability.

Yep, your correct about being limited to motorcycle tires, at least the FRONT tire of the Persu Hybrid.
This entire club was founded on the "FLYTHEROAD" theme of tilting down the road like an aircraft does in the sky. When you watch the old Carver videos when when the Carver appeared on Top Gear, that is what this is all about. It's not only "cool", but it actually brings what has been coined in the club as the "Fun Factor" back to driving.
It's the DRIVING EXPERIENCE that is incredible in a tilting vehicle. That's what most of us are so eagerly waiting for.
By the way, Welcome to the club! wel;co;m;e101))

I'm way old school. I was originally inspired by the GM Lean Machine which I assume you guys all know about, I just haven't seen any references here.

This is from '83 or there abouts so a tilting 3 wheeler is not new. Lots of detail photos under the skin at a sister three wheel tilting site http://www.maxmatic.com/ttw_leanmachine.htm

Well, your correct... We've been talking about the famous (or infamous!) Lean Machine for a while now. Here's the thread...

Twenty years later and still no major automaker has a vehicle like this in production. What a shame.

I was so inspired by the GM Lean Machine in the post above, I actually acquired a Bede BD-5 aircraft body that I was going to mount on my own Lean Machine design. Like lots of projects, that went by the boards. I was then inspired by an article in the 35th Anniversary edition of Road & Track where they asked a number of designers to speculate on the future of the car 35 years into the future. The design that caught my I was from Stuart Reed, a designer for Calty, the Toyota design house in SoCal. I actually bought a gently wrecked '78 Suzuki 750 GS for that project which lost out to buying a new house.
I then found this yellow beauty with more views found at http://www.3wheelers.com/projgal4.html The designer was expecting to go into production in 2004 but no more has been heard from him. I guess he and I share something on that point. But with all of the excitment being generated at sites like this, maybe 2010 will be my year to get going!

The biggest thing about tilt is the cool factor:burning:rubber: However, it does also add a great deal of stability during cornering.

I am totally with you there!

That may be Elio with an EV drive option, providing Elio Motors gets it beyond the concept stage and you like the design and could care less about the tilt. The tilt factor isn't cool but rather fun ctional in providing stability while cornering. Maybe just fun. The Persu is actually cool looking even if you didn't realize it tilts.

I was also inspired by the Lean Machine. Since GM wouldn't let me buy one I went for another Bede designed vehicle - A Litestar/Pulse. I've been monitoring the "development" of the V1/Pursu for quite a while and a lot of the ups and downs remind me of that vechicle's history.

We've been talking about the LiteStar/Pulse for quite some time now. Many members really like that vehicle.
You can find the threads on that vehicle by using the search feature. Here's one thread that I found really fast...

Tilt gets you stability. Three wheelers are unstable at cornering.
This is a nice finished looking product, but honestly It would look better with 4 wheels....so I dunno.

Looks like the original post was a bit premature; but the Arcimoto Pulse (now SRK) seems to be closer to production.

They are limited in top speed, range and the all-important TILTING Fun-Factor; but at least someone is trying to get an inexpensive (under $20,000) 3-wheeled electric vehicle on the road. Hope this paves the way for more advanced ones to enter the market later. Come on Persu!
