View Full Version : Persu no longer on the X-Prize site.

In October, Persu made it past the design phase of the X-prize competition, to be one of the 43 teams chosen to compete.

But today, there are only 39 teams listed on the site. Seems that Persu has dropped out of the X-Prize competition along with a couple other teams. They are no longer on the Map:

And the Persu team page no longer is published:

http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/teams/persu-mobility

Doesn't look good for my favorite automotive concept. Really was hoping to be driving one of these to work this coming decade.

-Not sure if they withdrew or were disqualified.

If true, this would explain the lack of communication, and the fact that they are not answering my phone calls.

I will now make some very aggressive attempts at communication. If I hear nothing after these final attempts, then I think we can officially begin to worry.

Well, folks, if Persu has indeed gone away, then I think we have to begin discussing moving this club into a different direction.

This is a very sad day for me, and I'm sure for some of you also. The Progressive XPrize was the final thread I was holding onto, and now that seems to be gone.

Hello everyone,

I've become a great fan of this amazing machine myself. I recently sent this email to an individual at Floyd-Associates who is the point of contact concerning Persu.
Hope this exchange sheds a little light.

Dear Nima,

Can you pass along any information (good or bad) with regards to Persu Mobility? This concept vehicle is highly desirable in many ways and has quite a following.

http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=2520 (http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=2520)

Are they in an early planning phase, or has this reached a dead end?

Thank you for anything you are authorized to pass along. We all appreciate it...very much.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The company is undergoing a reorganization. The details of the plan are still confidential and we can’t disclose much but we are hoping to get back on track in 2010.

Great work! This answer makes perfect sense, and is a reason for my calls being unanswered.

One thing that is puzzling, though, is that I thought the company was ALREADY undergoing reorganization with a new name, and bringing in a new CEO from Detroit last year. Ian had left, and Howard moved aside from the CEO position. It's strange that they are now going through yet ANOTHER reorganization so soon.

Anyway, thank you very much for making the contact. thu:mbs:up:22

not sure if this guy is making this **** up, but nice to read a comment at least in the right direction:

http://www.spotlightnews.net/sustainable/story.php?story_id=126021717224987400

"You can keep your gasoline-powered pickup and family car. Just make your other car — the one you should be driving to work (if not taking public transit or biking) — a narrow-bodied, two-seats-in-tandem EV. They are now being made in Eugene (the Pulse by Arcimoto), Spokane (the Tango by Commuter Cars Corp.) and Los Angeles (the Persu by Persu Mobility Inc.)."

maybe the site's down while they update :)

i know, i'm way too optimistic...

Well, I don't think this guy is "making it up", but I do know that he isn't aware of what's going on with these companies. He obviously did little to no research at all on the Persu Hybrid or the company before putting them in his little article. If he did, he may have decided against it. The fact that he states "They are now being made..." is the dead give-away. Even when we were hearing from Persu, they said the first model wouldn't be coming out until around 2013 or 2014....and that was BEFORE they went into stealth mode. Now we hear that there is a complete reorganization taking place, which would probably push that date back even further.

Bottom line is, Peter, the Persu Hybrid is NOT "now being made" by any means. The author of the article just got it wrong...Terribly wrong. It just shows you that a lot of these guys do very little research before typing out their articles.

It is good to know that they are not gone. A reorg is a good sign that someone thinks the idea (Persu vehicle) has merit, and someone is working to get it to market.

ReOrgs are nothing new in this market. Tesla and Aptera have both gone through some shake ups on the road to production. It would be great if Persu could get some of the stimulus money being handed out once they are finished with the changes they are undergoing.

What they have chosen to do is a very difficult task as Aptera has recently proven with another 6+ month delay. Their first customer delivery was 'scheduled' for Oct 2008 if I remember correctly.

That's good to remember. The only thing I was concerned about was the lack of response when I tried to contact them, and also the fact that they dropped out of the XPrize contest. I was always told that they would be in it, and now it seems they won't. I was also always told by Persu that they are trying to produce a vehicle for the marketplace, and NOT for the XPrize contest specifically.

Well, I guess all we can do is sit back and wait....as always! But I will be making some more phone calls after the holidays in an attempt to get some more accurate information.

Derwin...........I will feel more comfortable with your report on Persu's status after contacting them in January. If in fact there is a reorg maybe it will actually speed things up if the right people are involved. It will be nice to get more accurate info once and for all.

or perhaps it is the initial reorg still in progress...............nonetheless it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't answer all phone calls or emails during the process if only to provide the same response................"we are in the midst of a reorg blah, blah, blah". Something sounds a little fishy but I hope we get a more definitive answer soon. Stranded at home due to a Chistmas day blizzard in South Dakota with not much to do..................hope you are all having a merry holiday.

Yes, it appears that way.
