Here is a interesting 3 wheeler, built by students:

Charming!

For the metric challenged, it claims a top speed of about 75 mph and a range of about 90 miles. This would more than meet my driving requirements.

Just like the EV1 would have, rest it's soul...

It's a pointless, angst-ridden question, but: Why can't we buy one NOW??!!

(Yes, I've seen 'Who Killed the Electric Car'.)

I saw it too WattGas. While GM's Volt *may* help bring real, serial hybrids to the masses, I would rather buy an Aptera, a V-1, or even a Fisker before I'd buy anything GM makes. How many times do they need to f**k their customers over before people get the picture?

Perhaps part of the reason they killed the EV1 was because the virtually zero after-market parts revenue made it too difficult to f**k their customers over...

PHEVadvocate, do you think there's any chance of the Trev getting to market?

Let's just say that this:

Has a better chance of being produced than the trev...

When can I buy one?

We don't know. Our aim has been to demonstrate the concept of a low-mass, efficient commuter car. We first displayed Trev at the 2005 World Solar Challenge. Our aim is to have the prototype registered and on the road during 2008. But we will need someone else to take the ideas and produce a commercial version of the car.

One glance at the hollow door shell will tell you that this machine won't even come remotely close to meeting any crash safety standards in any developed country. It looks good from the exterior. At 600lbs, 100 miles to a charge, 75mph top speed, 0-60mph 10 seconds. Any improvements to the vehicle for rigidity will result in more weight and lower performance specs.

I imaging there is an awful lot of road noise with this 3-wheeled go-cart. I also wonder how water resistant that long cupola is when closed and resting on the body.

Just watched "Who Killed the Electric Car" Unbelieveable!!! I had heard of the EV1, but thought it died under it's own weight as a fail experiment.
Now I'm even more worried about Ian & Howards safety.

As in, the Evil Oil And Car Companies are going to assassinate them? Maybe, maybe not. Check his thread:

Apparently they're getting help from Detroit. Now this might be an "Embrace and Extend" (aka Engulf and Destroy) ploy ala Micro$oft, but on the other hand, GM might be realizing that they are going right down the tubes unless they get in on the coming tidal wave of high-mileage vehicles...
