View Full Version : Ideas for the V1
Thx For letting me know I got spammed.Well,I got to see more pictures of the V1.I don't have the means on my blackberry to draw my ideas but being the rear of the V1 is in the shape of a V.Why don't they make the tail lights in the shape of a V in led's.It would put a signature on the vehicle and
immediately identify it as a V1
going down the road.Tech Question ,I know the V1 is being designed as an electric vehicle, but you know most of us will use the electric in town travel and resort to use gas on the highway. While going down the highway is there any way to generate a recharging system for the V1 electric motor? The design team may have some ideas but if I get a V1 and use it for my vacation trips,I would invest in a small pull behind trailer which will have a small gasoline generator to repower the V1 during breaks.I know it will take approx 1.5hrs to recharge. What do you think?

Walt; the idea of an auxiliary power trailer (even turning the completely EV model into 'trailer power') has been discussed on the FTR forum. There was even the thought that the trailer could act as a 'home generator' during a power failure.
First off, Walt, I'm glad that little run-in with "patricia" didn't turn you away from our group!
Why didn't we think of the V taillights? That's a Gold Star idea!
The hybrid models of course, have the gas motor/generator (genset) on board to charge the batteries and provide any extra power (ie, for the HVAC). There's no reason why the hybrid V-1 couldn't be used to power your home during a power outage, if it has vehicle-to-grid designed into it.
The other idea we've floated around is to make the genset and battery packs modular, so they can be reconfigured for different situations. An all-electric range of 100-120 miles would be fine for most people to drive around their cities/towns, and then when you want to go out of town, you remove most of the battery packs and install the genset. If it turns out that the modular idea isn't practical, then the trailer genset would be the way to go. It would be nice if it had some storage space in it too. The problem is, as it stands now, the all-electric V-1 is more expensive than the hybrid, and if you add in the cost of a trailer/genset on top of that, it's going to push the price over $30,000
I wish the hybrid V-1's could get up to an electric-only range of @40 miles (currently it's at 20). If that were the case, it would be perfect for me; I'd only have to use gas maybe 5-6 weeks/year :-).

Well, my job is about one mile away from my home but, when I have to go grocery shopping it an hour to wal-mart! So, I am looking at using gas once every two weeks for that! then there is school which is just a mile down the road from wal-mart! So depending how I can get my schedule set up I may only have to go twice a week! As it is when I go twice a week I might as well say goodbye to a tank of gas which is about $43.00 right now! But I want to use the hybrid for trips to Illinois to visit relatives as well as trips to Florida to visit one of my best friends and his family! Hell at 100MPG that will save me a ton!!! Heck I could almost drive to Florida or Illinois for the cost of a current tank of gas!
