Here is a 3-wheeler that is really cool. Definately no replacement for the V1, but a nice concept none the less!

"The Hawk is a concept motorbike designed in my spare time during study of Industrial Design. I set out to create a vehicle which gave the comfort of a passenger car, with the performance of a roadbike. The result is a hybrid between the two, the Hawk.
Powered by a Honda RC51 V-twin 999cc engine, with a redline of 10,000rpm, 120RWhp and a theoretical top speed of 233 kilometers per hour. Wearing three 19inch lightweight alloy wheels equiped with twin rear and front disc brakes, you wont have any problems stopping in a hurry. Fiberglass outer shell and alloy chassis give you the aerodynamics needed to acheive the level of performance you expect from a roadbike, with the comfort of a car. The interior is a combination of moulded plastic and leather trim, with digital dials giving you the vital information about your vehicle.

I just wish these guys would start putting all of these CONCEPTS into a REAL vehicle that is available to the public. I go to the Chicago Auto Show most every time it is at McCormick Place downtown, and I always see AWESOME concept vehicles. But these things never get built! Sure, they may (on occasion) take a concept vehicle and attempt to bring it to market, but by the time it reaches the market, it is indeed stripped of most everything that made it a unique concept to begin with. I am so happy that we are "involved" with a company (Venture Vehicles) that is going to actually BRING AN AWESOME VEHICLE TO THE MARKET. After all is said and done, this is what it's all about.

Amen Brudda!

However, I think it is safe to say that there are several reasons these really cool concepts never make it to market:

1. It is easier to draw a car than it is to engineer a car.
2. Many people would see the task as insurmountable. Just look at what Ian and his folks have gone though so far.
3. Although very cool, many of these vehicles have no market at the price point that it would take to make them real.

Take for instance the Tri-Magnum designed by Robert Riley. I'm pretty sure the vehicle above was inspired by the Tri-Magnum. I'm sure that Mr. Riley does a great business in plans (hell I even bought a set) but you rarely see one on the road and this is basically a one-off custom built to the bike it is based on. Looking over the plans I see this as taking most of my free time for the next two or three years should I actually decide to get started. Now mulitply this by several thousand units. The first prototype does what it is built for and becomes the basis for the many to follow. Engineer the chassis, control interfaces, body to chassis mounting, make it all reproducible with the required jigs and molds and patterns. Hire the workers, find facilities, get insurance, locate suppliers and most of all make friends with the local banker.

The whole thing makes my head hurt. My hat is off to Ian and the whole team and I thank him and the team whole heartedly for making the V1 happen.

;) I snapped those pix at the Sacramento Autorama last year.

Both the Hawk and the Tri-Magnum are pretty wild rides. The Hawk is just a tad sexier, though.

Hmm, I think the T-Rex would take a bite out of those...

I just wish the T-Rex would make a fully enclosed model!
