Since, a couple of you seem interested I thought I would show you the car! remember it needs some work! it has been sitting for about a year in the Arizona desert without so much as a bath! The front bumper is broken as you will see because they hit a speed bump and broke it. plus it needs rims and tire like I had mentioned before! Just remember I only paid $550.00 for it! Forgot to mention it is a 1991 Mr2

Go easy, but let me know what you think? Btw front bumper will get replaced it will only cost me $163.00 for a new one!

Note: this bit was clipped from another thread! I decided to repost it here so I can give more updates without taking the other thread off topic! New picture have been taken and will be posted today!

Ok here is what has been done so far! As you will see from the pics it isn't a lot but here goes!

1. installed temporary rims and tires
2. towed it home ( using a tow strap. Note: handled fine no rattles! Solid)
3. removed that piece of torn rock deflector
4. Gave the car a much needed bath!
5. swept out and Armoralled the interior
6. fixed the passenger side mirror (it was hanging on by just one clip and flopped around.)
7. re-installed the rear view mirror
8. fixed the dash board that was tore apart from installing a radio
9. replaced missing bolt on drivers side ground effects and the wing.

This should give you a better view of what I have! Hopefully!

Looks like a fun. I had a 92 MR2 Turbo years ago and it was one of my favorite sports cars, reliable, cheap, fast & fun. Good luck with the project.

Looks like it's well on it's way to recovery! I tell you, once that front bumper is fixed and/or replaced, it's going to look a lot better. Thanks for posting the pix. It's cool seeing your progress. I look forward to more updates...

Well updates will be slower then originally expected! After beginning to do a tune up on the vehicle before cranking it over, I have found and unwanted problem! When removing the spark plugs I found one of them had been slightly bent and the center anoid (sp) broken out! This tells me that it has probably dropped a valve down into the cylinder block! As long as the valve has not become embedded into the piston or the cylinder wall, I will have to replace the cylinder head or rebuild it. However, if it has I will be looking for a crate motor from Japan! They told me the motor was blown but I didn't believe them! I know the kid that had it was a moron so I figured it was probably just a bad lifter or something but oh well! I am off and running now and there is no turning back! When I get done with her she will be the fastest naturally aspirated MR2 in AZ!!! (I hope);)

I guess you can post your projects here. I wouldn't want to hijack the thread though. You could always start your own. But since you've already posted, I must say that's a pretty wild ride, Mike. Roll cage no less! What times are you hoping for on the track?

Hey Brian, good luck with that MR2! Crate motor sounds like the way to go. Fresh start is a good plan.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread!
Right now without traction it runs mid 12's. It should be in the low 11's

No worries, Mike. I'm the worst offender! I just thought your own thread might be easier to monitor, and it would be devoted to your own project.

I really should have thrown a smilie face in there! ;) I'm no moderator, I just like to see everyone's projects get their due attention! Thanks for the reply. No doubt, you're going to need a neck guard and a driveshaft loop at that velocity, eh?

Well, someone asked, so here are some new pics! Please be aware that over the last two months I have been working 6 days a week 12 hour days and then I left for vacation for the last two weeks and just got back Tuesday the 17th, so there hasn't been a hole heck of a lot of time to devote to my project!

Hey everyone! Just thought I would send out an update! Engine has been removed and almost completely torn down! I found the problem!!!! LOL The engine has two rather large holes in the engine block. A piston rod broke and shot through both walls of the engine! Anyway I put some pictures up in an album for you to view if you would like! just go to my profile and you can view my album! Let me know what you think! Now it will be a matter of saving for a whole new engine! approx. $1000.00 including the shipping. Step by step after that I will have to save about $900 for rims and tires and then $600 more for body kit! Then Paint which will cost me whatever??? I haven't checked prices on paint quarts and stuff yet.

You do quick work MM! looks like a fun project - and out of a one car garage too! Here is mine - 64 1/2 mustang, 289 with rare factory 4bbl carbs, only bummer is that it's an auto. I did a full rebuild of the whole drive train, now I only have to do the body work - I want to do a full strip, media blast and paint (not easy or cheap). Even though it looks crappy I get asked if I want to sell it every time I take it out.

Derwin- If I am lucky I will be able to put the laptop in the passenger seat when I travel back and forth from school! LOL

Baja-Thanks for the vote of confidence! I feel like this project is taking forever!!! BTW dig the Stang!!!!

Also just an Update;

There has been some interesting developments as of late!!!

I am buying another MR2 in Boring Oregon and having it shipped here! All it needs is a new front bumper and hood. So I will be using it as my daily driver. then I will begin to work with my son getting this MR2 up and running and giving it to him!

But this all is going to come down to how fast I can come up with $2000! As it stands $200 dollars every two weeks isn't going to get me there quickly. So I am probably going to get a job on the weekends! I don't know what else to do. Unfortunately getting laid off 7 times in 3 years can really do a number on your credit, so that option is out! Anyone have any ideas that involve legal activities? LOL

Are you referring to my MR2 or the one AZE posted? MR2s are the most under rated sports car ever sold in the US!!!! Buy one trust me they are so worth it!!!! Also if you want more info on the MR2, check out www.mr2.com ! I am a member there as well! The MR2 will definitely fill in the wait for a V1!

Oh oops I forgot!!! The Mr2 in Boring Oregon fell through but I did manage to purchase an engine in El Paso Texas. The engine is in my driveway, and since it has a manual tranny attached to it I am going to change it over to a manual. My car is currently set up as an automatic. So this should be a fun switch, definitely a learning experience!! LOL Anyway, things are moving forward and I can't wait to get it running!

I had a 1993 MR2 rev 3 with a twin intercooled turbo in white. What a blast it ... i always wanted a couple more gears to the manual tranny... I had a blast shifting and driving it. was I am sorry I got it ... I should have kept it and got rid of the x-wife sooner. It was the most fun I had on 4 wheels on the street. ( and near to some of the race cars I drove - I often wished I had one for a pursuit car)

Maybe you should look into getting another one! Just a thought! :)

The Car not the wife! LOL

That was then this is now. I've done all kinds of car builds, restores, motorcycle mods and what nots. The only vehicle outside what I own now that I am interested in working on is the V1.. that of course might change when my boy gets old enough to drive.

Miracleman89
10-21-2008, 01:42 AM
How old is he??? If you get it now you both can work on it together and take your time getting it deck out with all the trimming! If you wait til he is old enough, then he might want to hurry and just get it done!

AZEqualizer
10-21-2008, 10:42 AM
He is eleven and according to him he would rather have a V1.

Miracleman89

Well I can't say I blame him! But the MR2s are fun!
