I am a car guy and love tweaking with my cars. I don't know too much about electric motors, but know from seeing the pml mini cooper, that they can make serious power. I wanted to see if anyone has any links or information about electric motors in general, and also, links or info pertaining to the bigger, more powerful ones? My mind is running wild :confused:thinking about the future when car customizing will be swapping in a bigger electric motor, or larger battery pack.:Beer:

Or fitting shorter and fatter cables with less resistance, changing power electronics with more efficient, more powerful componets, changing firmware parameters etc.
The tweaking will be much much more advanced.

This is going to be fun. I was watching a video on youtube of the tesla, which I am actually looking at their unopened showroom as I type, and the sound was awesome....very jet like. I can't wait to start learining more about these motors to tweak with them.
Smoove, you and Celtic might enjoy looking at Ronaele's 300EV and 600EV Mustangs: http://www.ronaele.net/Vehicles/vehicles.html

Smoove, you may want to check out the Tesla Motors Club (http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/). They've got some forums for battery discussion and electric cars in general. There seems to be some electrical engineers over there and they get into some pretty deep discussions.

Ian, I'm not sure if you have decide not to use "Hub" (in wheel motor) or not but I feel that by using these types of motors, vs a single unit with drive shafts, differentials etc. you could better distribute the weight over a wider footprint. This may give the VV better stability. I am aware that the "tilting" feature does lend itself to a very stable machine however the Wider the weight location the better...Thank You

@John Head
Yes, hub motors do seem to offer some advantages, toruble is they have their own set of not yet sufficiently solved problems. Think reliability.

I would think that the days of the "Shadetree Mechanic" are over. Now it will be more like the "Lab Coat Technician" and working on modding electric vehicles will be considerably cleaner. No more lava soap or liquid hand cleaner with pumice to deal with! :LOL:
PS - I love the fact that the "Ronaele" name was derived from the "Eleanor" of "Gone In Sixty Seconds" fame.
