Does anyone know how I can find out if the Venture one will be legal to drive in Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia?
Being that those are my top three locations in which I will be " flying" my V-1 around our nations capitol. This will also be a prime location to get your congress people and others to see these type vehicles to make more positive changes. I have tried to look at my states DMV laws but have come up short.

It will be certainly legal to drive the V1 in these areas: so long as it is properly registered in one state, it can be driven anywhere. (Case in point: recently we've been talking about how you couldn't register a V1 in Ohio because it required a motorcycle to have a saddle-type seat. If you were driving a V1 in Ohio that was registered in California, that would be perfectly legal.)

So the main question is: where would you be trying to register the V1?

'dobdru'; from what other forum members have said, and posted in the FAQ's:

It should be able to be registered in VA, and driven without a helmet, (not sure if a motorcycle endorsement on your license will be required). A call to your DMV should answer your questions. You should have plenty of time to find out, since 'Production' V~1's won't be available for 1 1/2 years or so, and then only sold in Calif. initially. Welcome to the forum.

If we fly out to California to pick up our V-1s, I wonder how hard or easy it would be to get a temporary permit to drive it back?

I guess that depends on where you live. I know in Illinois you can get a "permit" by simply taking a written test. But then to drive a "motorcycle", you need to have another person with a FULL M license with you.

All you really need to do is buy an inexpensive scooter (like the VogueOne)... :o !!Sorry about that shameless ad!!! :o, and go get your FULL M license with it. But the laws are different for this in every state, so you should check your own SOS.

Sorry, I meant a temporary licence plate to legaly drive back home to your home state. Not sure what it's like in California, but here in Georgia all you need is a cardboard plate with the dealer name on it, and a date writen on it that is 30 days until you have to get a perminant plate.

I know there is no helmet law on the books here in VA, for the V-1 according to the post linked below, but should I get the ball rolling on getting a motorcycle license? will that be required? I mean yeah I got alot of time to get that ball rolling.....

Like I said before, check your STATE regulations or CALL your DMV and ask 'Them'. They are the experts. That's up to YOU. Yes, no hurry, at least a year (maybe two) until (?IF?) the V~1 is released for sale.

As far as we know, the majority of states will still require a motorcycle license, even if they have an exemption for helmets.

I strongly recommend that you take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) beginner class. In most states, passing the MSF class is sufficient to gain a motorcycle license with no additional testing, and the MSF class is conducted with MSF motorbikes in a safe location.

When I signed up for my MSF class, there was about a 3-4 month waiting list, so you might as well sign up now for a fall class.

Besides, even if your state doesn't requrie a motorcycle license, one of your neighboring states might, and it's never a good idea to try to argue the case with a police officer on the side of the road if there is a question.

For my course in Florida, it was Fri. evening; Sat. all day, Sun. morning. Cost = $215 Well worth the money, they provided the bikes, helmets and jackets. All we had to provide were boots, gloves, goggles/glasses. I hadn't ridden in 25+ years, but came away with more confidence (and an appreciation for the challenges/dangers for those on less than four wheels). Just took the completion certificate to the DMV and for $15 got a new 'updated' license.

I saved the 50 page 'Rider Handbook' from the course, and the Official Florida Motorcycle Handbook, and plan to go over the material again before riding my VogueOne, and again before getting the V~1, so I can 'highlight' any important information that I might have forgotten since the course last fall. Better SAFE than SORRY.

In my area, the MSF Beginner course is $250 for a weekend, $175 for the weekday version.
