Al Gore Places Infant Son In Rocket To Escape Dying Planet

http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/gore_article_large.article_large.jpg
Young Gore sets out for his new home, where the sky is clear, the water is clean, and there are no Republicans.

EARTH—Former vice president Al Gore—who for the past three decades has unsuccessfully attempted to warn humanity of the coming destruction of our planet, only to be mocked and derided by the very people he has tried to save—launched his infant son into space Monday in the faint hope that his only child would reach the safety of another world.
"I tried to warn them, but the Elders of this planet would not listen," said Gore, who in 2000 was nearly banished to a featureless realm of nonexistence for promoting his unpopular message. "They called me foolish and laughed at my predictions. Yet even now, the Midwest is flooded, the ice caps are melting, and the cities are rocked with tremors, just as I foretold. Fools! Why didn't they heed me before it was too late?"
Al Gore—or, as he is known in his own language, Gore-Al—placed his son, Kal-Al, gently in the one-passenger rocket ship, his brow furrowed by the great weight he carried in preserving the sole survivor of humanity's hubristic folly.
"There is nothing left now but to ensure that my infant son does not meet the same fate as the rest of my doomed race," Gore said. "I will send him to a new planet, where he will, I hope, be raised by simple but kindly country folk and grow up to be a hero and protector to his adopted home."
As the rocket soared through the Gore estate's retractable solar-paneled roof—installed three years ago to save energy and provide emergency rocket-launch capability in the event that Gore's campaign to save Earth was unsuccessful—the onetime presidential candidate and his wife, Tipper, stood arm-in-arm, nobly facing their end while gazing up in stoic dignity at the receding rocket, the ecosystem already beginning to collapse around them.
In the final moments before the Earth's destruction, Gore expressed hope that his son would one day grow up to carry on his mission by fighting for truth, justice, and the American way elsewhere in the universe, using his Earth-given superpowers to become a champion of the downtrodden and a reducer of carbon emissions across the galaxy.
"Perhaps he will succeed where I have failed," Gore said.
Despite the child's humble beginnings, experts predict the intergalactic journey may have some extraordinary effects on Kal-Al's physique, eyesight, and, potentially, his powers of quiet, sensible persuasion.
"On his new planet, Kal-Al's Earth physiology will react to the radiation of a differently colored sun, causing him to develop abilities far beyond those of mortal men," political analyst Sig Schuster said. "He will be faster than a speeding Prius, stronger than the existing Superfund program, and able to leap mountains of red tape in a single bound. These superpowers will sustain him in his never-ending battle against conservatives, wealthy industrialists, and other environmental supervillains."
Although Gore and his wife voiced regrets that they could not accompany their son on his journey, they tried their best to equip Kal-Al for life on his new planet, providing the infant with a Keynote slide-show presentation of all human knowledge, a self-growing crystal fortress from which to monitor glacier shrinkage, and a copy of Al Gore's 1992 bestseller, Earth In The Balance.
The baby was also wrapped in a blanket emblazoned with the Gore family crest, which, because it is made of Earth materials, will be invulnerable on the new planet. It is hoped that one day it will be fashioned into a colorful costume for the boy to wear while fighting wrongdoers.
"In brightly hued tights, it will be harder for people there to ignore him when he takes on his new planet's lobbyists, auto manufacturers, and enemies of justice," Schuster said. "A bold and eye-catching unitard will give Kal-Al, last son of Earth, a formidable tool for protecting his new planet, a power more awesome than any his father could have dreamed of: the power of charisma."

Politics and religion... the bantering can go on forever and get absolutely nowhere.

And then there are threads with a link to somewhere else. Maybe they have something happening worth looking at.

Everyone is just waiting for Ian to fuel the fire again I think. gath:er:2

thank you, RAN. 2 things I've noticed about those of us following the Venture Vehicle; we are an emotional bunch, and we (some of us anyways) can't take a flippin joke.

The thing is, when we finally all get our hands on the V1, we're probably gonna get together. In person. Face to face. I motion that we talk to each other here as if we already were face to face. Anyone want to second?

Also, I don't take it personally that the updates are thin and far between. We don't know what we don't know. These guys could be locked in a titannic battle with GM or the gov't, or maybe about to beat them at their own game. Who knows? But they don't have to tell me squat, and they've told me far more than that, so I am ok. I am amazed at the amount of participation that they have asked for.

Wait a minute. You mean that Kal-Al, son of Al Gore, is not really going to be the savior of earth? Your saying that article was just a "joke"?? C'mon, man....you got my hopes up for nothing. That's terrible! j:o"k'e)

This is the kind of thing that happens when we don't have anything else to talk about. It would be nice if Ian would feed us with SOMETHING......ANYTHING!

I will say the article is a bit confusing! It was my understanding that Gore-Al was an alien himself and arrived here on planet earth during the Roswell crash. According to the crashed UFO's flight logs he came from the planet Carbon and that Carbonite had the same reaction to him as kryptonite had on Superman.

Loved the story but:
That can't be right. Gore produces a lot more carbon than any 20 of us on this site. Actually, if he will keep his son company I will chip in for the fuel the rocket needs.thu:mbs:up:22

"I took the initiative in creating the internet" -Al Gore

Hmmm. You may have been joking, RAN, but Al Gores statement is what it is. He made that statement. He grossly overstated his involvement. The internet is something that the government was tinkering with back before Al Gore was even in politics....at least a form of it. I don't think it is wrong to hold people to statements that they have made in the past. Al Gores statement was very clear. Now he simply has to live with what he said.

Al Gore made many contributions through the legislative process to help move things along. But so did so many other people. For Al Gore to make such a statement is simply arrogance at it's highest level. If he would have said "I was one of many that took the initiative....." than we would not be talking about it, and he would not have been labeled like he was and still is to this day. He has that label now for good reason.

People are all over Bush, McCain, Obama, and others for ridiculous statements they have made, so it should be no different with Mr. Gore.

My statements are NOT political in nature. I couldn't care less if Gore were a democrat, republican, or a politician of any other stripe.

RAN....

I took it as a joke. But then people got "offended" by your joke because they don't think the very basis of the joke was or is true. I just wanted to emphasis that the basis is indeed true, and the joke was right on the money.

Besides that.... Your correct.... We need an update....SOON!

Derwin,

I don't always agree w/ Gore, but since he left office, he has dedicated thousands of hours to a cause he believes in. Dan Quayle has spent his time managing a private hedge fund.

I think you can tell a lot about a leader by the decsions they make after they leave office.

meckman....

This thread was started by RAN as an innocent joke, and was not meant to spark a serious political discussion. I responded to posts in that vain.... nothing serious.

But, without getting TOO deep into this..... I do not agree with your assessment of Al Gore. And I have met Dan Quale personally when he came to our church a few years ago. He is a good man that is doing a lot of good work. It's just not publicized by the media like Mr. Gore's. But I do have a problem with Al Gore, as you can probably guess.

I really don't want to get into a political debate with anybody on this forum, though. This club contains members of EVERY political stripe, and I sure don't want to offend ANYBODY. That is simply not why this club exists. There are plenty of other clubs and forums on the internet to discuss and argue about politicians and the politics they represent. This is NOT one of them.

I would prefer we keep the discussion about Venture Vehicles, alternative fuels and transportation, and other related things. Attacking Al Gore, Dan Quale, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, or getting into discussions about the CURRENT presidential race, simply serves no purpose in this club.

My advice would simply be this.... Vote and support those people that hold your point of view on the issues. If Al Gore is somebody that you admire and like, than support him. If you like McCain or Obama, then by all means support them. That's what America is all about!

I just didn't think quoting Al Gore's statment about "creating the internet" was a pretense to an arguement. RAN meant it in jest, and so did I. Besides that, it is an actual quote, as was the mistake that Dan Quale made with potato! No need to get "personal" with comments about who is the "better man". I think BOTH are "good" men, but I simply respect one a lot more than another, as I am sure you do also. So let's just agree to disagree, and leave it at that. We can go to OTHER forums to discuss politicians.

I wasn't the least bit upset with you, I was just making an intelligent point. I subscribe to the Onion and thought the article was very funny. If you have links to Mr. Quayle's volunteerism, please send them to me.

Derwin

Like I said.... I don't want to get into a political debate with you. And I sure don't want to discuss Al Gore's "Volunteerism", and I put that in quotes for a reason! As far as Danny's activities, they are not widely publicized, as is the case with SO MANY people that do good things.

I personally know the owners/founders of Merril Consultants. They are the company that provided the software for the Mars Rover. They are multi-millionaires, and they give away so much money that it's hard to keep count! They provide scholarships to people that otherwise could not attend college, and they do so many other good things. But, guess what? Nobody knows about it. They do not publicize what they do. These are the kind of people that I honor and respect. And, you know what? They are big-time democrats who know Bill and Hillary on a personal basis. Mrs. Merril actually went to school with Hillary here in the Chicago area.

So, all I am saying is..... Just because you don't read about things in a blog, or in the Sunday edition of your favorite newspaper, don't think that good things are not being done on a daily basis by people that you may otherwise not respect or have disagreements with. It's the very fact that they are NOT made public that makes it even more honorable.
