We have until Monday afternoon to speculate, when they will pull back the curtain on their website foshelectricauto.com (http://www.foshelectricauto.com/) and reveal.... what?

They claim to have an electric car with:
Unlimited Mileage, with a Self-Regenerating Battery System
Sexy Curves
And a Price Under $25,000.

Anyone want to take odds? dr:ive1)

This could be interesting. Can't wait for more info. Do they have a good history W/ updates?

They have no history at all. They just appeared with a website and a teaser.

Supposedly Nikola Tesla had the answer almost 80 years ago to tapping electric current from the ether, as it were. I've always wondered, if he really did, how long it would take someone else to figure it out.

These guys are almost certainly Full Of SH**... but what makes the game interesting for me is waiting to see if someone won't someday just step out of the bushes with The Answer all wrapped up in a working prototype that could be driven from NY to LA and back without any charging from any external source.

If you'd shown Sir Isaac Newton one of the old mechanical adding machines, he would've marveled at it's complexity and design.... but he would've also understood how it worked. If you'd shown him a modern digital calculator, with LCD screen and virtually no moving parts, he'd have probably called you out as a witch, as the principles under which it works are outside of his frame of reference.

Tesla was a genius because he figured things out first. How many "respected engineers and scientists" of his day scoffed at his many inventions as being "impossible?"

I just joined their "forum", or what purports to be a forum. Here is an interesting answer they gave to somebodys question about more details:

Here is a little more of what we can tell you:

The battery packs don't actually recharge themselves. There are solar like panels throughout (none visible) the car, that will turn heat into energy, thus providing power back into the battery units. There is a lot more technical information that will be provided on Monday.

We can't really get into "solar thermal" and specific information, yet.

I have no idea if they are legitimate or not, but I think it's only reasonable to wait and see what they present, and then make our judgments. They may indeed be full of ****, but then again.......?

I signed up too. I use an email account specifically for those situations that I feel may not be completely on the up and up! I also offered myself as a test driver since they mentioned considering giving away some vehicle in order to get a full range of climates and areas to test their vehicles further. We shall see what they say. I feel I offer probably the best scenario for trying out vehicles in the area I live and the extreme temperatures we see as well as the mountains provide plenty of challenges. But also the fact that I work for a police department should add some extra security for their idea.

I guess I am of a different mindset. The new hybrid and EV vehicles that are coming out are just plain vehicle.... no matter how cool they may look. When you get in them, they just take you from point A to point B in the same old manner. For some reason that just does not excite me anymore.

The V1 is a vehicle that adds FUN and EXCITEMENT to getting from point A to point B. That's what attracted me to this vehicle in the beginning, and that's what keeps me interested in it.

We can buy a lot of cars that LOOK great, sexy, cool, and out of this world (well, maybe not a "lot"!). But how many vehicles are out there that provides a "theme-park" type enjoyability like the one that Venture Vehicles is working on? Very simple.... N-O-N-E. I know..... The V1 isn't out yet either, but at least they are working on it.

Give me a solar panel and a plug in hybrid that reaches 80+ MPH and doesn't need to be plugged in every 40 miles and not cost me my first born! Oh yeah and not look like a clown car! That is what I want and I want it three years ago! We have had the technology available to make that happen but nobody cared until gas prices hit $4 a gallon! We had Electric motors. We had gas powered generators. We had solar panels. We had batteries that we could recharge using an electrical outlet. Heck, GM had the EV1 and people loved them, but they made them impossible to purchase and damn near impossible to lease. I put just about all of the blame on GM! They are the reason we are in this situation now! I say (insert explicit word) them and their precious volt concept! They are nothing more then money hungry cockroaches! They claim use of aluminum and carbon composites and a vehicle curb weight of just under 2000 lbs. They also claim to have designed their own AC motor: 98 lbs, 195HP, 99% efficiency.

They're using NiMH batteries, and the secret seems to be use of "nanoantennas", which are tuned to the mid-infrared spectrum to provide continuous charging. I can see where this might work well in the South, but how well will it work in a Michigan winter??

They were only planning to sell the 1st 10 at $25,000, but now it appears they're going to give them away to be test driven. The retail price when they actually hit the market will be between $45,000-55,000. They also plan to have these on sale by Nov 28 of this year.

A somewhat disappointing "premier." However, stay tuned next week at this time for pics and videos.

The jury its still out....

I'm with you ... very sceptical. Don't see any way of having them on sale this year. Unless perhaps they are using some production chassis (and it would almost have to be a tube frame race chassis to make their claimed weight) to bolt their body panels on to.

ziggy951

This is on their home page now:

"We are currently in talks with two television networks, who are interested in broadcasting the unveiling of the EVT-3. With that said, no matter what happens, you will see the EVT-3 by next Monday. As a safety net, there will be a live video feed that is set to take place on 8-25-08 at 9p.m. CST. Please check the "updates" section for current information.

Not related to our televised unveiling, we are scheduling appearances on EVcast, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Big Idea."

It would seem that their vehicle, at $45-55k, is a bit under priced, unless it has virtually no options.

Lets break down the cost of the parts they have claimed thus far. I will assume a 2 door coup. Anyone have a more concrete idea of what these items would cost? I only have a rough idea from when i was pricing out some personal items earlier this year.

Personally I would think that the body panels, frame, and battery would cost close to $40k alone, let alone all the engineering costs and other parts that go into the vehicle. If we are talking about a 2 seater or something similar to the V-1, I suppose this would be possible but I really cant get my head around whether or not this is true or even possible.

Also, from what I have read about IR "solar" technology, it isnt even as effecient as standard solar equipment. So yeah it can charge at night but how much energy can it really put into a batterypack while youre driving down the highway at full throt....potential?

Well, folks. I'm on the list that thinks FoSH means Full 'o Sh**.

They say the power comes from "nanoantennas". And, son of a gun, there is such a thing! https://inlportal.inl.gov/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1269&mode=2&featurestory=DA_101047. But, the problem is that (like everything else we've pinned our hopes on), there's still plenty of work to be done before it leaves the lab.

So, I looked around for something more current to see if there have been any breakthroughs and found this (http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-08/dnl-fna080808.php) dated August 10, 2008. Sure enough, near the bottom, was the line I expected, "But more technological advances are needed before the nanoantennas can funnel their energy into usable electricity".

So unless FOSH has discovered something the physicists at Idaho National Laboratories haven't, they're full of sh**.

Mark Tomlinson
08-18-2008, 11:26 PM
P.S. A real good indicator of a perhaps well intentioned but nonetheless worthless "discovery" is the ever shifting demonstration. Didn't they know last week that "big media outlets" were courting them? So why did they wait for the big announcement to tell us they've changed their plans and can't show a demonstration? Expect to see more "wrenches in the works" which will delay the media presentations. Then (I predict) we'll start hearing the groundwork being laid for a conspiracy theory.

They haven't got anything. They thought they'd have something, but they don't and now they are stalling.

RAN
08-19-2008, 12:03 AM
I pretty much have to agree with you Mark. They only had one unveiling date to meet... and it was a date they set themselves. If they can't come through with that, it doesn't say much for the anything else the company promises.

The Ian Bruce Update Method indeed... bummer...

ziggy951
08-19-2008, 12:10 PM
Actually. Ian at least has a demo, a technology that is already in production, body panel molds formed, an entry into the Xprize validated, and a dedicated fan base!

These guys have less than nothing. They have words on a piss poor website. I could have done a better job at a breakthrough electric car website and put it together in less than a day. Plus, I would have atleast had some pics!

Warning! V-1 Fanboi motivational speech coming!

The V-1 is a spin off of an existing production model. The main problem is the conversion from hand produced items to a full production run item. The design of the vehicle is basically the same as an already proven vehicle. Its like the difference between the Mustang GT and the Roush Mustang...only in reverse! This means that it WILL WORK! It is just a waiting game. It is far cooler than the bubbly Carver, imo, and it should be just as fun to drive. Personally ill be doing some mods to mine when I get it because I would rather have a performance minded vehicle than one that saves fuel. I am one of the V-1 spporters that would be happy if the V-1 got 60 mpg as long as it got from 0-60 in 4 seconds :) Like the guy in the video said. This is the gadget to end all gadgets.

Hope that helped some of you droopy eyed frowners that are a bit down on the lackluster and lack there of, news we have gotten as of late.

08-19-2008, 11:18 PM
If you break down what information they have actually released you can surmise that they only have a concept. maybe a chassis and motor built but the rest is up in the air.

The IR stuff just isnt feasable yet for anything out of a laboratory setting.

A carbon and aluminum chassis and body panels are still expensive tech.

They state "could be the first unlimited mileage, electric car"...Notice the Could Be part of that? This means that they dont even have a proof of concept, let alone a prototype.

"This car would have some of the sexiest curves". Again notice the WOULD, as in when/if they develop it it may have what they say.

The best part, "what would you say if you could buy this car for under $25,000". They dont claim it will cost any amount of money. They only pose the question "what if".

The wording of everything they say is all based on the fundamentals of marketing. Because of how it was written I was pretty much convinced from the beginning that it would be at the very MOST, a concept. We didnt even get that.

For all we really know this is a group of kids in an advanced marketing class in college attempting to prove a thesis lol.

It is pretty easy to find trashed bikes that have good running engines or a used one on the cheap. How sweet would it be to convert the V-1 to a CBR powerplant. Of course I would have to widen the rear wheel base to accommodate some thicker meat. Hmmm, got my wheels turning already.

Heck, if Eestor starts production this century I could just upgrade the AC motor. That would be even better.

I'm not holding my breath. As far as I'm concerned, they blew it last week. It's going to take a lot now to change my mind. NiMH batteries are hardly cutting edge. They're designed more for long life than they are for best performance.

I am guessing they will release some kind of explaination of why they have to keep most of their information secret. I am guessing on one of the following statements:

1. Because our technology is so amazing we are no longer going to allow the public to know about it for fear of being taken over by big brother and their evil allies big oil. We have to be secret now until we have produced these vehicles in a secret manufacturing facility. We can not disclose the location of this facility. Dont worry, you will be able to buy this car as soon as we figure a way to transport them in secret from our manufacturing facility to our showroom.

2. One of the TV stations bailed on us because of some political garbage. We are still working with the other guys to get an exclusive revealing of our 5 cars sometime this month. We will keep you updated. Also, watch for us on Jay Leno sometime in the future.

3. Our 5 vehicles were stolen last night. We suspect big oil was in on it. We will begin working on new prototypes and have at least one for you to see by the end of this year.

4. Funding has run out and since we dont want any single company or group of investors to own this technology we are putting it on the back burner until we can come up with the extra funds necessary to make this car a world wide phenomenon.

5. Photoshopped pic of a carbon fiber chassis that looks quite similar to a Lotus Elise with two large boxes integrated into it. One is on the rear and one is located were the engine would normally be.

6. Screen shots of a diagram that shows the outline of their coveted, under 2k lbs, carbon fiber frame.

7. A press release about nanoantanea andhow amazing the technology is..erm will be by the end of the decade.

8. We have sold our technology to an undisclosed buyer. We are not allowed, for legal reasons, to tell anyone who this buyer is. We hope that they use this technology as it is intended and dont bury it in a warehouse next to the EV1 plans.

9. Because of some unknown factors we have to delay the release until next Monday. Dont worry, by Monday at the very latest you will see this amazing new vehicle.

DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE.

It is worse than bull****. It was actually, believe it or not, some sort of anti abortion campaign against Obama. It was not even related to any type of green tech. Worse than a scam. I hope somone can build a case to sue them for ANYTHING.

I knew it was bs as you can all probably tell from my bantering but my goodness this was foul.

I am truely at a loss for words, and that doesnt happen very often with me.

I just sent them a letter informing them that I work for a police department and that their intention to use my contact information as a donor to the McCain campaign violates the Fair and Clean Elections Act as well as the Privacy Act and that I will be following the McCain campaign's financial records closely. If my contact informations is used in any way, they will be receiving information from my lawyer in the form of a summons to appear. Failure to appear could result in a warrant being issued for their arrest! I don't take scams lightly! and I await their response!

Have one of your detectives get their "hidden" domain registration information. Then post it and....someone I met...will take care of them thu:mbs:up:22

At the very least it would let us know who registered the domain and lead us to who they support/work for.

I sent the following to the hosting site, iPower.com.

Please review the site http://www.foshelectricauto.com/ which you host. The company lead people to believe they were introducing an electric car. On the date of the "big announcement", they instead shocked everyone with a slanderous attack on Barrack Obama's stance on abortion.

I am sure that they violate your Acceptable Use Policy, section 4.a.1, http://www.ipower.com/legal/legal_aup.bml Additionally, if they intend to use the contact information of people who registered at the site for political reasons, then they are in clear violation of the law.

I am sure you will want to suspend their site as quickly as possible. Tactics of this sort are the type that make national news, and I have no doubt you do not want to be associated with it.

Ziggy please note I will be following the McCain Campaign's financial records very closely!

C'mon, MM89, lay off the McCain campaign! They had absolutely nothing to do with this.

I just found out about this now, and I was actually shocked. I am against abortion of any kind, but this (to quote another post) is just WRONG. And I think they actually HURT the cause with these kind of tactics.

As far as using the email list, these idiots didn't say that they would. Here is a direct quote:

For every email we received, "tester list" included, we will donate $5 to SPCA and $2 to the John McCain campaign. Also, for every post on our forum and even those that will be posted in the future, we will donate 25 cents to Jonh's campaign.

There is nothing "wrong" with doing that in my opinion. Yes, there was indeed a great deal WRONG with HOW they obtained the emails, but they aren't actually DOING anything with them. All they say is that for every person they duped, they will donate money. I could also say that I will donate $5 to Obama's campaign for every member that joined this club. Even though many of you may not like Obama, it has no bearing on my decision to donate. You have not contributed a penny toward it, and have nothing to do with the donation. I just decided that I would make donations based on club membership. This would be a personal decision, and you may not even know about it. I'm being facetious, of course, but I think you get my point.

LET ME BE CLEAR.... WHAT THEY DID WAS REPREHENSIBLE, AND I THINK WE SHOULD LET THEM KNOW IT. I am no Obama supporter, but I am writing them a letter to tell them that due to their unethical scam, I am actually going to donate money to Obama that I would not have otherwise donated. They will learn very fast that this has HURT their cause far more than help it.

NOTE: Derwin they said that is what they were going to do with the contact information!!!!! By saying they were going to use contact information,, they are saying that they will place that donation in my name!!!!! That is where the problem comes in!!! I did not authorize them to use my contact information for anything other then being a test driver! It is a violation of the privacy act!!! Also by placing a donation to a campaign in someone else's name with out their approval goes against the fair and clean elections act. Here is why: If you or your company has made the maximum donation to a campaign you are not allowed to donate anymore! By using someone elses name to place that donation they are violating that law! My Issue here has nothing to do With the McCain Campaign but everything to do with the people who set up this hoax!!!!!

Please!!! Let me be very clear!!!!!! I do not hold the McCain Campaign responsible for what this group of people has done!!!!!!!!!! But what this group has claimed to do is against the law!!!

a definition of the word For is : on behalf of

this means in my name!!!! I am sorry you think I am mistaken. And you may very well be right. this is but one definition of the word for so I could be wrong. However, if I am not then it is in fact illegal and as a member of a police dept it is my job to inform authorities when I witness illegal activity. I am sorry if my response to this has in some way made you feel uncomfortable. You and I have had many talks and you know me to be pretty rational in most cases. This is one of those cases that I can't take lightly.

1.) I don't take lightly being scammed!
2.) I do not in anyway support the republican party(this really has the least to do with it)
3.) if I am right what they propose is illegal and my job requires me to inform authorities.
4.) according to the dept lawyer if they use my information to place that donation they could be facing federal charges!!!!
5.) I am the vice chairman of the local democratic party I could lose my seat simply on the bases of a donation being placed in my name for a republican campaign!!!

I am sorry Derwin, I really am but this is something I just can't back down from!!!!! I truly hope that you understand my position!

MM89,

No problem! I just really do think you are making a big deal out of absolutely nothing at all. Like I said, it's just like me saying.... For every birdie I make today golfing, I am going to donate $100 to my favorite charity. I'm not donating it in the "name of" the birdie! The birdie is just the thing that is TRIGGERING the donation.

The thing is, I wonder if you would be this upset if it were a left wing group that did the same thing, except the subject matter was getting out of the Iraq war, and what an idiot Bush or McCain is. But either way, it's not a big deal.....legally speaking that is.

But, again, hoaxes like this are deplorable, and I think they hurt the cause of those who attempt them.

I think I would be even more angry if it was a left wing group using this type of tactic!!!!! I would probably have already contacted the chairman of the AZ democratic party and make him aware of the situation and ask him to step in in some way!!! contact the DNC and advise them of this group. This way our entire party could denounce their actions publicly!!! Also I would put in a request that the money they tried to donate be given to the fallen soldiers fund!!! I do not take being scammed lightly and I think anyone who attempts to use deception as a means of getting followers should be drug out behind the tool shed and beat with a rubber hose!!!!!

I do not take being scammed lightly and I think anyone who attempts to use deception as a means of getting followers should be drug out behind the tool shed and beat with a rubber hose!!!!!

LOL! Amen on the rubber hose part! =y:

But, when you think about it, what were you really "scammed" out of? They did not steal any of your money or anything like that. It was simply a hoax that they pulled off on anybody that went to their website. It was not the first hoax of it's kind, and it certainly won't be the last! We see it daily in all areas of the internet. Nobody was "harmed" in what they did. We were simply duped into believing something that was not true....no harm and no loss to anybody.

I agree, there are truly better ways to get followers than to pull off hoaxes like this, and it does HURT their cause greatly. But nobody was scammed, and nobody lost a thing as a result. I actually believe in the "cause" that they are fighting for. I am against abortion with every fiber of my being. But I would not give a red cent to this organization, and it turns me off to radicals like this. But I don't feel any urgency to call the republican party, the McCain camp, the RNC, or anybody else. To be honest, they wouldn't care much about it, and neither would the DNC or Obama camp. It's just not a big enough hoax to even bother with. Now, if it made headlines, and it was a well-known hoax, then maybe that would be a different story. But this was no big deal at all. I wouldn't be surprised if this were a bunch of right wing college kids thinking that they really put one over on people! It's not even worth paying attention to in my opinion.

Now, if they got your credit card number, or social security number, then this would be a different story. It states they took down the site for copyright reasons although the message line mentions controversial material. The subject line confuses me some more because it says "Inoffensive" rather than "Offensive". Probably just a poorly worded e-mail they sent to Full 'O Sh** and then copied to everyone who complained.
