Despite the fact that the writer may have the IQ of a prune, it still sounds like a remarkable breakthrough.

I love it when pompous researchers get knocked on their collective butts by a 12 year old genius. :-{)]

William... get a good lawyer and get a patent ASAP! And, great job!!!

Thanks rotie, and welcome!

Thanks guys! I have been "around" forever, just seldom have something to say that hasn't already been said, and I don't participate in bickering.

It's all good tho!

Has anyone considered putting solar cells on the roof of the vehicle? That way, while it's parked in my work parking lot all day, it can be recharging the battery.

Yes, much discussion on this and the FTR Forum. Do a [search] to find more.

Yea, thats the problem - current solar cells are just too inefficient to directly power anything larger than a transistor radio. I do have a 32 watt panel on the roof of my truck, and it does do a good job of keeping the truck batteries topped up when it sits for a week or two, but it would take months to charge them even here in sunny San Diego. I've been thinking of also retrofitting in some sort of fan system to keep the cab cool when parked and would love to see the Aptera system...

The last time I pulled out my calculator to answer that question, a 50w solar panel (very large) on the roof would provide 1 minute of driving time for every 2 hours sitting in the sun. It's just not worth the cost of the panel.

MikeB, this question is being asked enough that it probably should be added to the faq. Feel like typing up a few lines?

Good point, I'll see what I can do in the next couple of days.

Thanks. It seems to be a common thing people forget about solar power: it's free, but it's not cheap.

If the Prius can do it, why not Venture?

Yes, Toyota is doing it.. so is Fisker and Aptera. But besides the cost aspects, the roof of the V-1 simply isn't big enough to bother with them.
