Q & A

1.Is the monthly "Podcast" update system still in the works? And when can we expect the first one to be 'posted'? (Rogwild, 2007-05-24 20:01:19)
It's most definitely in the works. I'll let you know the schedule soon. (Ian Bruce, Administrator, Posted: 2007-05-25 07:47:34 Posted: 2007-05-25 07:47:34)

2.I was curious to know what your thoughts are on the door and a half idea? (Miracleman89, Posted: 2007-05-25 16:58:15

I think it's got a lot of merit -- so long as it doesn't compromise side-impact safety. As you might've guessed, we'll be taking everyone's suggestions and compiling them into a "wish list" for the design team. There's been a lot of smart, critical thinking here, and we take your comments and suggestions very seriously. . (Ian Bruce, Administrator, Posted: 2007-05-27 17:12:00)

3.Ian, after getting some miles in the 'Carver test bed', is there any problem with sun/glare on the large front cockpit window (especially around sunrise/sunset)? Does the Carver have any type of 'sun visors'? How will the V-1 address this potential (safety) problem? (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-06-02 13:05:18)

Good question: It's an issue we'll be addressing in design The simplest idea is a retractable rolled "windowshade" with the guides in the A-pillars. I don't think a flip-down wouldn't work particularly well -- unless it was an extension that also formed the handle. (Ian Bruce, Administrator, Posted: 2007-06-05 13:12:27)

4.Did ARNOLD fit in the Carver One? Front or back? Ooops thats two.(Rogwild, Posted: 2007-06-28 16:42:24)
5.I'm curious, did you truck, fly or drive the Carver to the Capitol? (Randi, Posted: 2007-06-28 16:42:24)

Arnold didn't get a chance -- We don't want to use up our powder on a photo-op. We'll be meeting with him later on a much more substantial issue. More on this later. (Ian Bruce, Administrator Posted: 2007-06-28 22:28:48)
6.Will Venture Vehicles be taking the Carver One, or prototype VentureOne on a tour or allowing people to test drive? (Snoopy, Posted: 2007-06-29 12:13:54)

Absolutely. Naturally, I'd prefer that we do this with our own chassis. No schedule yet -- but I'll keep you posted. (Ian Bruce, Administrator Posted: 2007-06-29 12:32:24)
7.A FAQ was requested some time ago, is anyone working on that? Would you like some volunteer help for that?(MikeB, Posted: 2007-06-29 13:32:52)

8.Are you considering joining the EDTA? (MikeB, Posted: 2007-06-29 13:32:52)

9.A continuation of my last question. Do you plan on bringing the tour up to Canada or will I have to make a trip down to... Buffalo, I guess, when the tour is being done? (Snoopy, Posted: 2007-06-29 17:50:23)

10.Any chance you're considering ELECTROCHROMIC FILM for the V1? (Randi, Posted: 2007-07-01 12:50:13)

11.Prototype roll out--September 2007. Scant 60 days or so away, think there's a chance of seeing what features the prototypes will have--(aside from the generic 4 exterior and 2 interior designs)? (Randi , Posted: 2007-07-01 15:21:59

12.Will one of the prototypes be sent to the Automobile Testing Labs for 'destruction' to see if it meets current automobile crash standards?? How many vehicles would you have to send/dedicate to be tested/certified? (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-07-12 10:30:26)

13.If the V-1 is NOT considered a "motorcycle" in Texas (as per the above definition), will it be required to meet automobile crash safety standards in order to be sold/licensed in the state? Will you need to apply for an exemption to sell/license it in Texas? (DWFWACO, Posted: 2007-07-12 15:27:01)
“By some fantastic LUCK, engineering, or technology, the V-1 MIGHT, but HOW would Ian even KNOW the answer to a question like that since, the final design has not been picked, no prototypes built, nor ANY CRASH TESTING done (if they even plan to submit a prototype for destruction, since it is NOT REQUIRED)? That might be a question that Ian CAN answer.” (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-07-12 10:30:26)
And I will. We're shooting for an automotive standard of safety -- even though it's not required by NHTSA. We're performing finite element analysis (FEA), and crash simulations during the engineering phase; and actual crash testing in the production phase.
This stuff isn't cheap -- not by a long shot -- but I think we can all agree that it's the right thing to do. (Ian Bruce, Administrator, Posted: 2007-07-12 19:23:29)
14.Ian, could you address the 'actual questions'#'s 10-13? Also, since prototype building is fast approaching, have the wheel motors (manufacturer and model) been decided upon yet? If in fact, the SAME motor will be used in all models (you stated earlier the same 'SKU') how is it determined that the e50=50Kw(2ea. 25Kw electric motors), Q100=100Kw(2ea. 25Kw electric motors), and the Ev=40Kw(2ea. 20Kw motors). Not an EE just trying to become 'educated' and want to read/know more. (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-07-19 10:49:28)

15.I was curious if you could answer this question for me. I have seen where many car companies new concepts hit the road for some real street testing, they are usually clad in a leather cover that wraps the car so people cannot see exactly what it is, and I have notice that a bunch of them seem to have arizona plates including some foriegn manufacturers. So my question is, Do you know where in AZ they do these street runs? I live in morenci AZ at the foot of US 191 Coranado trail and if ever there was a road for testing vehicles that is it! I was wondering if they do this around here? (Miracleman89, Posted: 2007-07-20 13:54:39)

16.When will the four additional outside style renderings be posted up? Interior rederings? I did not care for the other rendering at all and looks are a deal maker/breaker for me. Please come through! thanks. (Snoopy, Posted: 2007-07-31 18:44:18)

We'll post them here before we show them anywhere else. The people here are better informed than any focus group we could possible assemble, and we greatly value your feedback.(Ian Bruce, Administrator, Posted: 2007-08-01 12:22:54)

17.Ian, I was wondering if you are planning on placing a career section on the website, dealerships interested in becoming a V1 Dealer, where they can send in a resume and documentation of their sales records as well as finacial records? Just curious! (Miracleman89, Posted: 2007-08-09 17:12:25)

18. Have they [Design Team] been given a list of forum suggestions/desires yet? (if you need assistance, I can do it in a day or two, in my 'spare' time). (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-08-22 11:06:05)

Ian, since you stated that one of the FIRST things you were going to do, was give the 'design team' a list of the forum's inputs; I would like to know:

a) Do they have a list of our inputs/desires/comments yet?
b) Did they have any comments/recommendations that you would like to pass on to us?
c) Any 'ballpark' figure of when they may have something to release to the forum (days, weeks, months, years)?
d) Do you even have a 'design team' selected, and working on the V-1 project? (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-09-14 20:31:43)

Thanks for all the hard work of getting this together randi (http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/member.php?u=7)

19.To date, how many have pre-registered for a V1? (Randi, Posted: 2007-08-31 22:28:26)

20.Would it be possible to advertise the yahoo group on the VV site somehow? Thanks. (Dreamer, Posted: 2007-09-04 00:46:21)

21.What 'exactly' does "Series A" funding cover? Terms like 'branding' mean little or nothing to the layman. Will this actually cover the complete production of all Prototypes (how many)? What is "Series B" funding, and how far will it take V.V. towards actually 'selling' a V-1 to the PUBLIC? (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-09-15 10:55:39

22.Would it be possible for you to post a copy of the 'forum list of options and suggestions' that you provided to the 'design team' in a separate thread, in the FTR Blog, or one of the other sites (V1FOC, Yahoo FTR group, or the 'future' flytheroadclub.com)? Also posting a copy/scan of the two 'design directions' that were eliminated would help to create discussion and 're energize' this forum. That way we can see if any ideas were omitted, or at least use the thread to generate further discussion (to fill the 'slack' time between the Bi-Friday Updates), or to possibly spur new ideas. (Rogwild, Posted: 2007-10-22 13:10:54)

23.I know that you will not have a working prototype ready for the LA auto show this year. However, do you think that you will be there anyway with some images of the new designs you all have been working on? (Miracleman89, Posted: 2007-10-23 17:11:33)

24.Air Conditioning. Will it be a battery powered so we can be cool when running on the batteries or a regular automotive unit that runs off the genset. Battery powered sound much better to me. (Cearlnot, Posted: 2007-11-01 21:05:28)

Wow randi (http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/member.php?u=7) did lots of work getting this all together. -nice job

25. Type of manual transmission to be used - Will it have the typical motorcycle straight-line sequential or car 'H' pattern random type selector linkage?

Has the new CVT (Constant Velocity Transmission) been considered? It would seem to me that a better gas milage could be obtained with a much narrower engine speed/range during acceleration (1,000 - 4,000 rpm vs. 1,000 - 8,000 rpm). Does anyone out there have first-hand experience with the CVT, and can give real-world Pros & Cons on this issue?

From a sportsman's "Fun" experience, I personally would prefer a dual paddle steering-wheel shifter and 1,000 - 10,000 rpm High Performance engine, but I forsee 100+ mpg being far more important than g-suit requiring acceleration within 2-3 years. Tilting fun and reasonable acceleration will be fine as long as we can gain access to and afford the gasoline to take it out on the road.

See that goes to show you.....if there is a small body vehicle of any kind, someone will find a way to shove a 'Busa engine in it. Surprised we have not seen a "Busa Segway :D

I already did that. I built a 'Corv8' - a later model Corvair with a Corvette LT1 V8 mounted behind the front bucket seats. <6:1 weight to horspower ratio (2200 lbs : 375 hp), limited slip 3.55 differential, close ratio Saginaw transmission. It blew away every street machine I came across, and I got 28 mpg at 60 mph cruise. The acceleration was phenominal with Formula Group 1 mountain cornering.

Right now I would prefer 80 - 100 mpg and the best acceleration that goes with it.

Cool Donald! I've got a Datsun 240Z that I built with a fuel injected Chevy 327 V8 , 6 speed, with around 435 hp. It weighs 2400 lbs, posi 12 bolt Chevy rear with 3:73 gears. It's a blast! (Car on right)
