View Full Version : Solar Panels on the Roof?

Q: Would it make sense to put solar panels on the roof?

A: Given the size of the roof and typical solar panel efficiency, you might expect to get about 50W of peak power from a rooftop panel. But the V1 will consume more than 6,000W while cruising down the highway. This works out to roughly two hours of charge time per added minute of drive time.

On the other hand, a small solar panel could be used to drive low power accessories such as a ventilation fan without draining the main battery.

Mike,

A lot of us have been asking that, too. I think it could happen. Here in this area we have a couple of different solar panel companies competing for business, and they're very aggressive w/ new sales.

The Aptera has solar on the roof to power accessories and I think, but am far from sure, might add some charge back into the main batteries.

As always this is a cost effectiveness issue which will be determined on a yearly basis because of how quickly solar is increasing its efficiency.
