Hello! The very first product to be created with our new club emblem is this very nice club coffee mug. The emblem is emblazoned on BOTH sides of the mug, and is crystal clear, although the photo makes it look fuzzy...it is NOT.

http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=763&stc=1&d=1226100497

If you are interested in getting 1 or 2 mugs for yourself, they are only $9 bucks each. The only problem that I see is in the shipping. I found that priority shipping is around $8. If you know of any cheaper shipping, please let me know.

Thanks.

I will check into it and see what I come up with!

The small USPS "Flat Rate Priority" box has no weight limit and costs $4.80 (11"X 8 1/2" X 5 1/2"). I use this frequently.

The cheapest flat rate box from the post office that I know about it actually more than $8, I just checked, and it is $9.80.

The regular priority mail box starts at $4.80, and then goes up depending on distance and weight.

The "Priority Mail Flat Rate Box" comes in three sizes - the small 11" X 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" for $4.80 (which I am holding in my hands as I type, and I can read "Flat Rate Box" right on it), the medium 12" X 3 1/2" X 13 3/8" for $9.80, and the large 12" X 12" X 5 1/2" for $12.95.

If your post office is telling you that the medium $9.80 size is the smallest, demand to speak to your Postmaster and DEMAND that they stock this size for you.

That's probably it. I was looking at the medium box!

How many mugs do you think can fit in one box? It doesn't sound like 2 will fit. So that would mean that it would be $9 for 1 mug, and then $4.80 for shipping. If we can fit 2 mugs in the box, then the shipping would obviously remain the same.

Easily. A simple bubble wrap of the cups (separately) and the spaces filled with foam peanuts should be enough.

Hey, that's one sharp looking mug! :whoohoo:

Can't wait to get mine! Thanks for making my design a part of your official club branding, Derwin. I'm honored, really. Credit should also go to Curtis "cpaddock" for providing the design's original composition. It was a collaborative effort, and I want to make sure everyone knows it. In fact, the "Curves Ahead" on the road sign is a direct quote!

Donald, I just checked, and the 11 x 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 box costs $9.80 to ship domestically. There is no *flat rate* priority box that I can find with the post office that costs $4.80. Can you check again on this?

By the way, Celtic, there is no need for you to thank *us*. You have provided the club with an incredibly good emblem, and we are indebted to you. Thanks again for your creativity, and willingness to use it for this club.

Thanks.

Well, I just shipped CelticFlyer a mug in a very small box, and I shipped it by way of USPS Parcel Post. He lives in California, and it cost $6.30 for the postage. The tiny box weighed 1lb 5oz. I was hoping we could find a cheaper way for shipping, but it looks like the priority flat rate would be the best, other than parcel post. But then I would have to buy a bunch of tiny boxes!

cpaddock.....

I want to "officially" thank you for your input in Celtic's design. Your slogan "curves ahead" really fits this vehicle perfectly, and gives the new emblem the finishing touch it needed. Thank you very much! thu:mbs:up:22

If you want a mug or 2, just send me $9 each, along with shipping. You only have to pay whatever the ACTUAL shipping will be, so go online and figure out what shipping will be to you from my zip code to yours. I'll be happy to ship one right out to you.

Payment can be send to:

D. Beushausen

Thanks.

Derwin, those 'Flat Rate Boxes' are "FREE" - that is without cost, other than the postage when you ship it. Just pick up a handful.

Donald, I know. The flat rate boxes are free, but the *cheapest* one to ship is $9.80. I was talking about the boxes that I would have to buy if I shipped by parcel post.

Water bottles would be cheaper to ship, and darn near unbreakable ... OK, I will shut up now. :)
In all seriousness: if you are running low on coffee mugs, it looks like 200-300 min order on water bottles runs ~$2 a pop, 3 color logo - not to dimish the fine art, but: do we have a 3-color only version of the logo?

CelticFlyer
11-09-2008, 11:10 AM
The difference between a three color logo and one made of four colors is amazing. Trust me. With three colors, you're limited to the shades of only three distinct inks. With four colors, millions of combinations of color can be created using Cyan, Magenta, Black, and Yellow, colors commonly used in offset printing, and silkscreening as well.

Put simply, yes, we can recreate the emblem using three inks, but it will bear little resemblance to it's current configuration, and it will lack the pop it now has.

I don't think water bottles will be any cheaper to ship than mugs. I will be using the same box, and the weight would be pretty much the same. It's really the shipping that wrecks this!

I do like your idea for the water bottles. I will definitely be looking into it. But I think the prices you are quoting are for a process called "pad printing" where they use a pad printer to stamp each color onto the substrate (product). I am working with a sublimation printer, and can use an unlimited amount of colors.

Shirts would be easier since they can go into packing bags (padded envelope). ... shipping and handling is often the thing that turns the prices into the ouch catagory... Look at the flytheroad.com stuff. (http://www.flytheroadstore.com/cart/home.php)

AZE.... Shirts is something that I can begin doing immediately, along with the coffee mugs. But what SIZE shirts should I get, and what TYPE of shirts? Also, where should the emblem be printed? Very large on the front, or on the back? Or small?

Any ideas?

Hey, you ain't kidding about the shipping costs. I just went to the ftr store, and the shirt was $19.99, but the shipping on the shirt was $15.64!

I like the 100% cotton, Hanes Tagless T that is preshrunk. You could do a poll of sizes ... check out minimum quantity and then tell people when we get to x number you will order them. They have 1 week to pay up front for them. Then print em out and ship em out.
I would guess x-large is going to be most popular since lots of ladies like to where them for casual nightware at home and it fits a lot of guys ( was always most popular at the trade shows that had give aways that I saw)

For embroidery instead of print, or if multi-color is an issue, here's a hack job at a 2 colors only (one can easily envision 1 color):

Dan, we are using *sublimation printing*..... we do not have to be limited to only 1 or 2 colors in this process. We have the ability to use *unlimited* amounts of colors on the shirts.

But you did a nice job! thu:mbs:up:22

Derwin, please explain to me why you are not able/allowed to obtain and use the small "Flat Rate Box" at $4.80 to ship up to two mugs from your Post Office? As I previously explained to you, these boxes MUST be made available to you - if they do not 'stock' them, DEMAND that they stock them, or you will report them to the Postmaster General.

This is my last post on this subject. Either you can handle this problem, or you can't. It's your club.

Donald, you must be mistaken about this box/price. The 11 x 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 flat rate priority box costs $9.80 to ship domestically. There is no $4.80 flat rate priority box, as I already stated above. I checked with our local post office, and I also checked with the post office online, and it does not exist.

If you can give me a direct link to the exact box that you are talking about, please post it here. But the *cheapest* flat rate priority box is $9.80. That is the information that I received directly from the post office.

Here's a "hack" of my own:

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee299/GrabberOrange/FTRCLogo-TeeShirt-2C.jpg

Still might not have rooted out all of the RGB colors, but it's a close approximation. Getting a one-color emblem is a no-brainer; all you've gotta do is convert the complete graphic to grayscale from RGB or CMYK! Isolating the various 3- or 4-color builds...that's the challenge! =y:

danbucks
11-12-2008, 10:03 AM
Well, that is a better hack!
However - 1-color scenarios (like embroidery, not print) also recommend solids - no dithering/simulated gradients. I believe, even today, most agencies recommend simple, solid, logos for companies for that and other visual reasons. It's been a few years since I have checked, however, and obviously "recommended" rules don't have to apply here.

CelticFlyer
11-12-2008, 12:57 PM
You're right about that. I'm in the process of neutering the original art. It's a little more complex than I would have thought! It looks so dull without any gradients or color. I'm almost tempted to substitute them with pattern fills of black rules, just so I don't lose the shading that gave the drawing depth.

We can do FULL COLOR on hats shirts and all other products that will be made by sublimation or embroidery.

What Celtic is working on is a pure black and white logo for some new products we will be making. These products will have the emblem forged in steel, and will have no "shading" in them. The factory needs a clean black and white image to work with.

I wish I lived in a state where only the rear plate was necessary. For the longest time, I drove my '07 Mustang without a front plate because I liked the clean look of the nose without it. But then I got tired of ducking whenever I passed a cop, even if at worst it was a $10 fix-it ticket. It was just too much trouble. I don't understand the logic here. Why is mandatory to have a front plate in some states and not others? I know it's a state-by-state issue, rather than a federal one, but I can't understand why it's not universally one way or the other!

I like the plate frame idea myself...perhaps we should start a thread on it! =y:

Here's the plate frame I had custom-made with my "handle" and the name of the site I moderated:
